VectorEDK is a UEFI rootkit created by the controversial Italian company Hacking Team as part of a suite of tools that they sold to governments and law enforcement agencies. Hacking Team created this UEFI rootkit but didn’t intend for it to be widely distributed, however, it was released into the wild as part of a data breach against Hacking Team’s computer systems in 2015. Many subsequent UEFI rootkits are believed to have used code that originally came from VectorEDK.
