Trickboot is an extension of the infamous Trickbot (first identified in 2016) malware. Trickbot developers have created a new module that probes for UEFI vulnerabilities, because they understand that by targeting UEFI firmware they can gain complete control over the infected system. This is an example of malware developers refining their techniques to target a potentially more vulnerable part of the software stack: UEFI firmware.
